Satellite Broadband

ASTRA2Connect is the latest 2-way satellite internet service from BeyonDSL. Developed by Astra and Newtec, the service at last makes 2–way satellite internet affordable as well as accessible.

How does it work?

The Astra 1E satellite is located at 23.5E. The hub is at Astra’s HQ in Luxembourg where it is connected to the internet backbone and from where it transmits to the satellite.

Your ASTRA2Connect dish plus iLNB is the link between the satellite and the satmodem connected to your computer.

What do I need?

The system comes complete with everything you need to get connected:

  • 79cm Dish with unique fine-adjust Az/El mount
  • Interactive LNB -  “iLNB” - to send and receive
  • ASTRA2Connect Satmodem by Newtec
  • Unique “Point & Play” audio alignment meter
  • 30m Twin Digital Coax Cable
  • Ethernet Crossover Cable

What must I pay for?

There’s a one-off Connection Charge when we first set you up on the system. Then you need to buy the system which comes complete in one transport carton. We recommend you have it installed professionally although it does include the unique “Point & Play” audio alignment meter for a DIY install. You will also need to provide a secure 60mm pole on which to mount the dish.

Now choose the service level you want. It’s cheaper to pay annually but there is a monthly payment option for each level. That’s it! You could be up and connected in days.

If you’re thinking about having satellite TV, we have a range of Freesat options which can be installed at the same time for an extra cost. If you have or want Sky, your installer will be able to add it but you will need to arrange and pay for this directly with him.

Where can I find more information?

There are videos on the service plus how to install on the Astra2Connect site here: http://www.ses-astra.com/consumer/uk/astra-broadband/index.php

What’s the difference between the Service Levels?

Each Service Level offers a different inbound and outbound speed, similarly to ADSL. There is a “Fair Use” policy which gives you a certain amount of downloads at the service level speed. If you exceed this limit, your speed will be reduced to ensure other users are not adversely affected.

Please give us a phone call on 0845 6430144 so we can go over your service requirement and installation, after this the equipment will be ordered from Beyondsl and an installation date aranged.

Do I need planning permission?

Not normally. A 79 cm dish is within the usual permissions. For more detailed information you should visit the Planning Portal http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/ant/antenna_guide.html

What’s included in a standard installation?

A standard installation is no more than 30m cable run from the dish to the satmodem (or TV receiver), on a south-facing wall with no special access requirements – typically no higher than the first storey. If your install is non-standard, the installer should tell you on arrival on site and clear any extra costs with you directly before proceeding.

What mount do I need?

The Az/El mount fits a 60mm pole. As long as it is secure and vertical, you can use a wall mount, pole mount or patio mount

Can I get Sky or Freesat from the same dish?

Yes. The dish can be fitted with a second LNB to feed a Sky or Freesat receiver. Our Quad LNB contains a filter to avoid interference from the transmitter in the iLNB and provides up to 4 feeds for your digital satellite TV system.

What about TV from Astra 1 at 19°East?

The dual clamp can be fitted to receive either Astra 1 at 19°East or Astra 2 at 28.2°East but not both. Your choice is either 19°E (European TV) + 23.5°E (internet) or 28.2°E (UK TV) + 23.5°E (internet)

Do I need any software on my computer?

You need an internet browser.

Can I use it with my Mac / Linux computer?

Yes – any computer which has an Ethernet connection.

Can I use VOIP?

Not yet. It is planned for 2009 as an extra cost option.
